Sizes Of 2 STROKE COX Motor 010 020 049 051074 090 015

The easiest way to check you Cox motor and know what Size it really is. You measure the size of the Motors Cylinder even with the change from Cylinder to the Aluminum Glow Plug. You are measuring the outside of the cylinder at the widest part even to and parallel to the fins. The smallest one is the .010 it is .438 or less than 1/2inch. then gees the .020 this motor is not a lot larger but at .553 or more than 1/2inch it is slightly larger. Then gees the .049 it is the largest of this group and measures .750inches across. The photo's look quite similar in a photo but if you have two of them side by side they look quite different. From left to right in the photo is the 010 020 and 049's note the Black Widow has a Red anodized aluminum spinner out front. The Golden Bee has both the crankcase and the Fuel Tank in anodized Gold color. and last but not least is an Ultra D which has a diesel head a much larger Prop and is purple or as it is going. it is Ultra Violent Diesel. This Diesel is built to the max. Teflon Seals and Reed, Over Size Fuel Tank, Chrome Moly Crank, Piston and Cylinder have been fitted to each other. This motor is even faster than a Venom. This is a one off motor I do not know of any other's that where made. It is the reason the Diesel is no longer allowed in speed gepetitions. NO! The motor the BOX the Hand Written Instructions It is not for sale. I do however sell many of the parts and pieces in my store. If you don't see it ask I will get it Now we get to the big boy's the Tee Dee's and the Medallions even though the 010 is a TD it has always been the littlest kid on the block so no one confuses them with the other TeeDee's The 049 TeeDee is normally the black one with the front carburetor venturi up in front of the cylinder.many of these motors have had the cylinder swapped to it from the 051 which is also a Tee Dee. and Normally the 051 has a red plastic front to it. Still the only real difference between the 049 and 051 is to look through the exhaust port at the piston and as you turn the prop screw over and the piston goes up and down on the 051 you will see a groove or line the goes around the piston close to the bottom of the piston skirt. The cylinder is also stamped with the number 5 on the side cut to the exhaust port. The rest of the motor is identicle. the glowhead is the same and all. Then we go up to the next bigger Cox motor from the very back of the motor to the front of the prop washer at the edge it is 2.020 inches and that is with the prop washer pressed back against the crankcase body. The holes on each side are .440 from front to back and that is center to center on the holes. measuring from the hole on one side to the hole on the other side it is 1.070 inches center to center From the top of the Glow head to the top of the crankcase it is 1.415 inches and from the top of the glowhead to the very bottom of the motor it is 2.3175 inches the bottom og the glowhead where it meets the cylinder is .928 inches across. That gives all of the easy to read external dimensions. It is so much bigger than the 049 and 051 that you should not be able to mix those two types up. Now gees the Big Daddy of the glow head motors that is the Cox .15 Although they gee in different colors there are two basic styles the Tee Dee which also has a variant called the Special MKII They were black plastic fronts and the MK II had a gold anodized crankcase. The Medallions had a red plastic front to them and even the flare of the venturi was red plastic where the Tee Dee's always had an aluminum flare to the venturi. the size between the red .15's and the Tee Dee Black .15's were the same overall. the size from the top of the glowhead to the bottom of the crankcase under the motor was 2.730 from the front of the prop washer to the rear of the motor was 2.380 now this is from the outer edge of that prop washer I do not measure the center projection or an of the fitting that go on top of the prop such as another type of cone or spinner or washer type of the screw. Also from front to back on the holes on each side of the mounting plate we find the holes are .510 inches center to center on those holes. and from the side to side distance of the holes we find it is 1.260 inches center to center. The outside measurement of the glowhead was 1.078 inches diameter. From the top of the glow head to the top of the crankcase was 1.667 inches Now with all of the above dimensions you too should be at least able to do a little measurement and figure out what size motor you have or what size someone else is selling. I use a $400.00 Starret digital Caliper to do these measurements. If you are even close to them that should be good enough to tell it from the next size and type. I will add measurements and such as time is available. The 074 Queen Bee is easy to tell as it has a rear carb on it and an external exhaust muffler that looks like a torpedo on the side of the cylinder. it is almost as big as the .09 but like I said it has a rear carb and none of the 09 had that. The RC 09 Had a Front Carb that worked. and the Muffler which is the same size and shape as the .074 Queen Bee has a pressure port on it a nipple to pressurize the fuel tank. It is Funny I have one Queen Bee that some Guy Put an 09 Cylinder on. Yes it fits and even looks right. He did at least put the piston on with it. So out there somewhere is an 09 running around with a 074 cylinder and piston I will ad some more photos as time gees up as well.So lets sum it up: The 010 has a cylinder that is .438|----| across The 020 has a cylinder that is .553|----| across The 049/051 cylinder that is .750|----| across The 074 Has a cylinder that is..933|---|across The 09 Has a cylinder that is .929|--| across These two are not back wards that is what the both measure The 15 Has a cylinder that is 1.070-1.083 across. Now depending on Several different factors that I will not go into at this time. These motors were always very close to this size Still Just as there are different numbers stamped on many of the different cylinders many of these motor sizes had different size cylinders cut for other reasons. There is a dozen different whys on the cutting of cylinders for different motors. Many of these motors had flats cut on the sides of the top fin of the cylinder. Why did Cox do this? To be able to put a wrench on the cylinder and glowhead To aid cooling I have a ton more to go with this but not enough time to put it together yet bare with me I keep trying to ad to it. in bits and pieces.Take care Dray
