Lexus Keys - Remote Masters, Valets, Fobs

Here are a few tips about what should know and how this may affect your potential Lexus Key purchase on okay. Because we are a Lexus dealership, we receive countless phone calls and emails about keys. Keys that have been lost, misplaced or even stolen. How does one get a replacement? What happens if I've lost all my keys?First off, if you own a Lexus model between the current year and 1998 (back to 1997 for the LS400) then you may be familiar with the Lexus "immobilizer" key or known as the "transponder". Security is always a top priority for Lexus engineers; it's the
inspiration for the Lexus' cutting-edge engine immobilizer system.
This ingenious electronic system prevents the vehicle engine from
starting unless the correct key is placed in the ignition. The
vehicle's geputer systems recognize the pre-programmed identification
code embedded in the key. Simply put, no unauthorized key can possibly
operate the vehicle.Remote Master Key (always Black)2-step unlocking remote trunk release opening of windows and available moonroof car finder engine immobilizer and panic alarmall controllable from gepact remote in key head. Usually seen as a large bodied key with three buttons - lock, unlock and panic buttons. DetailsLexus continues to refine auto security and convenience by now integrating the remote entry system into the ignition key head itself. Drivers are able to perform multiple functions with the gepact remote contained in the key head.Key functions of the system include:lock/unlock all doorsunlock drivers door onlytrunk lid releaseopen power windowsslide moonroofuse "Car Finder"operate engine immobilizertrigger the panic alarmLexus owners can also enjoy the added security and convenience of the automatic illuminated entry system. When the doors of your Lexus are unlocked either manually or by using the in-key remote the interior dome light and ignition key cylinder ring will automatically illuminate and remain lite for 15 seconds or until the door is opened. You will never have to worry about dead remote entry batteries in a dark parking lot. An LED indicator also embedded in the key enables you to monitor the life of the battery. Many of the Lexus remote master keys use a widely available CR 1616 lithium battery.Non-Remote Master Key (always black)A non-remote master keys works the same as remote master key without the obvious remote capabilities. A Lexus non-remote master key is a large bodied key, black in color but without the known three buttons. This master key allows the driver to start the vehicle becuase the "immobilizer" is implanted in the body of the key. Valet Key (always grey in color)A Lexus valet key looks the same as a non-remote master key, but is different in color - grey. To understand what a valet key is to just think about it's name - valet. A valet key is one that you might use to give a parking attendant, hotel concierge or a valet. Now here is the difference - This key can be used to start your Lexus, but has a restriction that it cannot lock or unlock your glovebox as well as lock or unlock your trunk. For those of you who own SUV's the trunk feature does not apply. Should you ever wish to place important documents, valuables or other small items in your vehicle while your out, you may lock your glove box to keep would-be thieves out. A Lexus valet key is one of luxury as opposed to functionality. Wallet Key (light aluminum, silver in color, usually acgepanied by a black plastic surround - the size of a credit card)A Lexus wallet key is primaraly used in the unfavorable instance in which a valet or master key is not available. The wallet key is used to gain entry to the interior of your Lexus when your master or valet key may be inside. There is more to follow, so please don't rate this document just yet...
